Lake St. Clair Fishing Report

Walleye fishing continues to be good in the St. Clair River trolling crawlers in the daytime and whipping pencil plugs at night. Some nights limits are taken in a couple hours.

Catch and release bass fishing is excellent. Should be another good opener like last season. Barry and James took home a limit of these chucky size bass for din- din, see picture.

Muskie off Huron Pte, desent fishing. Perch out in the weeds in the middle of the lake. Good Luck

This past weekend was the opener of the Musky season. I heard a 31 pounder was caught off Huron Pte. Good Muskie fishing early in the season can be found in Anchor Bay, Huron Pte, and the Dumping Grounds. Another place to try, Homer LeBlanc told me years ago was in the Detroit River Scott's Middlegrounds before the weeds grow to high. This is the place where they race the hydro-plane Gold Cup races.

Perch fishing is good off the Bassett and Ruscum river in 16 feet of water Canadian waters. We keep 70 perch 8 inches or better with 10 or so over 13 inches. Shiners are the ticket for success. We salt and freeze dry them to meet the Canadian law. Lots of smaller ones to sort out. Please throw only healthy fish back in the water keep the fish that swallow the hook. Thanks.

The ole "Marble Eye " tournament ended Sunday in St Clair, Mi with many big walleyes caught. Good action from Algonac to Port Huron persist. Jigging, trolling, handlining, chugging, and whipping are all the fishing methods I can think of that catches walleye in the St. Clair River. Doctor John is picture here with his limit of walleyes ( Canadian pickerel) caught recently.

The walleyes were on the attack this morning. These youngsters bagged these walleyes and they are taking them home for dinner. The walleyes are in the whole river system now. Good catches have been coming from Algonac to Port Huron. Please remember to bring child lifejackets when going out on our waterways with young kids . Many folks just have adult jackets on board and these are not adequate

Louis and his grandson took these Detrot River walleyes back to Chicago for some fine dining. On Saturday the river was murky in the morning and the fishing was slow. About a 11 am the bite started for us and we caught 5 walleyes, one throw back, and several smallmouth. On Sunday we moved our boat to the St. Clair river. In the morning the water was murky so we fish cleaner water in the middle of the river. The St. Clair produced 6 walleyes and one steelhead (almost). Lost the steelie at the net and it was a beauty. I would guess 10#. The river is clearing up nicely and the fishing will be awesome this month. Give me a call to get in on all the action.

4-21-09 The big walleyes are snapping on the Detroit River. Water temps have reached 45 degrees and that offically signals good fishing. The American side of the river was clean this past weekend and jigging was good on Sunday. The Canadian side of the river needs to clean up a bit for good jigging but handliners are taking good numbers of fish. Hopefully this weekend will be the best weekend to date for fishing and weather. I have dates availible for you.

4-6-09 We took these beauties this morning jigging near the steel mills on the Detroit River. The time is now for quality walleye fishing with fish to 10 pounds running the river. Try using jigs tipped with shiners or artificial minnows that mimic the shiner. Hold your rod tight because these fish are big plus there are Muskie and big Bass available as well. Good Luck

Steelhead are in the St. Clair river along with cohos and walleye. We took this nice 8 pounder jigging near Port Huron on a orange jig tip with a gulp minnow (smelt color) plus 2 walleyes.

We fished a couple hours the ice was near gone. Fishing will improve as we move into spring.

Well the Muskie fishing on Lake St. Clair is going gang busters right now mid lake.

Try Hi-Fin buck tails preferred bait 2 ounce weight 70 ft. back or use a 4ounce 50 ft back. Bass fishing off Belle River Hump in Canada is excellent at the C marker below the dumping grounds - you might also pick up a walleye or two.

The Muskie fishing is tremendous. Bass are plentiful. Walleyes have showed-up finally. We been doing combo trips starting with the walleyes first and been getting enough for a quality dinner then switch to bass or muskie. Watch out in Canada with minnows brought over from US. The Ministry has not been kind to their neighbors from the North. North Bay chooses not to fish Canada with live bait until the issue is favorible again. We have been doing very well in Canada near Belle River on the Muskie trolling artificals.
